Shelter for Abused Women & Children offers The Brookdale Elder Abuse Response Program to meet the needs of individuals dealing with neglect, financial exploitation, physical, emotional, sexual and/or verbal abuse in later life at the hands of a spouse/partner, adult child, caregiver or other family member. The program focuses on providing seniors with information, emotional support, customized safety planning, direct services, community referrals and legal advocacy. Additionally, it is instrumental in educating the community, raising awareness and decreasing the rates of elder abuse. The Elder Abuse Response Advocate supports abused elders as they deal with the shame, hopelessness, physical ailments and economic stress that often negatively influence their ability to seek services while maintaining relationships with community agencies to bridge service gaps.
